Drowning Litany
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S, M (a pinch of salt taken from the pocket of a drowned sailor)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute (concentration)
Save: Constitution save (half damage on a success)
Description
You chant the verses the drowned monks sang as the sea took their abbey, and one creature you can see within range feels cold seawater rise in its lungs.
The target must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 4d8 necrotic damage and begins to drown on dry land: it can't speak, it can't cast spells with a verbal component, and it has disadvantage on Constitution saving throws made to maintain concentration. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage and suffers no other effect.
At the end of each of its turns, a target that failed the save takes 2d8 necrotic damage and repeats the saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success. A creature that doesn't need to breathe, or that can breathe water, takes the initial damage but is otherwise unaffected. If the target drops to 0 hit points while the spell is active, seawater spills from its mouth.
Damage
4d8 necrotic damage
