Codex, the D&D Assistant
Codex is the book-shaped assistant in the corner of every page. It knows where it is: in the Monster Creator it can fill in the form with you, in the gallery it searches, on a reference page it answers from the rules in front of you.
Without an API key (free)
- Finds the right tool or page for what you are trying to do, and takes you there.
- Searches the Community Gallery for monsters, spells, NPCs and more.
- Answers from the site's own SRD reference: monsters, spells and conditions.
- Helps with the forms that do not need writing, such as rolling loot or checking a CR.
With your own API key
- Chats freely about your campaign, rules questions and ideas.
- Writes with you: whole monsters, spells and items, lore, descriptions and names.
- Fills in or rewrites sections of a form on request, and can make art where your provider supports images.
Keys from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google AI work, as do other compatible providers. You pay your provider directly for what you use; Chronicle Codex adds no charge.
Where your key goes
- You add it once, in Dashboard → API Keys. It is stored encrypted in your account.
- AI requests go from your browser directly to the provider you chose. Your key never passes through Chronicle Codex's servers.
- What you ask, and the form content Codex sends along with it, is received by that provider under its own terms.
- You can remove the key at any time, and it is never included when you download your data.
More in the Privacy Policy, section 5.
Getting started
