Sundering Aurora

Level 8 Evocation

by Maribel Quist

Sundering Aurora

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: Self (300-foot line)

Components: V, S, M (a prism of clouded glass that has been struck by lightning, which the spell consumes)

Duration: Instantaneous

Save: Dexterity save (half damage on a success)

Area: 300-foot line, 5 feet wide

Description

You draw a shard of the first dawn down through the ceiling of the world. A curtain of white and violet light unfurls in a line 300 feet long and 20 feet wide, standing for the space of a heartbeat before it tears itself apart. Each creature in the line makes a Dexterity saving throw, taking 7d6 radiant damage plus 7d6 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. A creature that fails the save is also Blinded until the end of its next turn, and any creature reduced to 0 hit points by this spell is disintegrated into a drifting column of bright ash. The aurora sunders what stands in it as readily as who: unattended objects in the line, and any structure made of stone, wood or metal, take the full damage without a save, and nonmagical barriers up to 6 inches thick are cut cleanly through. The light leaves behind a scorched, faintly humming line across the ground that glows for one minute and then fades.

Damage

7d6 radiant damage plus 7d6 lightning damage

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell using a 9th-level spell slot, the line is 400 feet long and the damage increases by 2d6 radiant and 2d6 lightning.
