Snarewise

Divination Cantrip

by Wren Halloway

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: Self (30-foot radius)

Components: S

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute (concentration)

Description

You press your fingers to the ground, a doorframe, or the lid of a chest, and for a moment you share the patience of whoever set the trap. Until the spell ends, you sense the direction of the nearest deliberately constructed trap, snare, or triggered mechanism within 30 feet of you, whether or not it is hidden, magical, or currently armed. You do not learn what the trap does, how it is triggered, or exactly where it lies, only that it is there and roughly which way it waits.

The spell is defeated by 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt. Snarewise detects intent, not danger: a rockfall, a sinkhole, or a sleeping guard dog registers nothing, while a long-disarmed trap still tugs at your senses. Traps built by creatures with an Intelligence of 3 or lower are likewise beneath its notice.
