Vigil of the Drowned Bell

Level 7 Necromancy

by Ospren Vale

Casting Time: 1 minute

Range: 120 feet

Components: V, S, M (a bell clapper recovered from a sunken wreck worth 500 gp)

Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes (concentration)

Description

You ring a clapper taken from a bell that drowned with its tower, and for a moment everyone within range hears water where there is none. A 40-foot-radius sphere of cold, still air settles on a point you choose within range. Each creature in the sphere must make a Constitution saving throw, taking 8d6 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. A creature that fails is also deafened and has its speed halved until the start of your next turn, as though wading. For the duration, the tolling continues at the start of each of your turns, and any creature that begins its turn in the sphere repeats the saving throw against half the damage. Any creature killed by this spell sinks: its body settles as if through deep water and rises at the end of your next turn as a drowned husk under your control, which acts on your initiative and crumbles to brine when the spell ends. The bell does not care who answers it, and neither, by the end, do the drowned.

Damage

8d6 necrotic damage

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, the necrotic damage increases by 2d6 for each slot level above 7th.
