Ashen Recall

Description

You smear a pinch of cold ash across an object you touch and breathe across it. The ash clings to the traces a living hand leaves behind.

You learn the following about the last creature to have carried, worn, or wielded the object within the past 24 hours: its approximate size, whether it was a Humanoid, a Beast, an Undead, or something else entirely, and whether it handled the object gently or roughly. You do not learn the creature's identity, appearance, or name, and the impression cannot be used to track it.

If the object has been fully submerged in running water, burned, or made the subject of a rite such as Ceremony since it was last carried, the ash falls away and you learn nothing. An object that has never been handled by a creature yields no impression at all.
