Description

You speak a word that should not be spoken, and for an instant the world forgets how to make sound. Choose a point you can see within range. Each creature of your choice in a 30-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be gripped by the Silent Hour for the duration. An affected creature is incapacitated, cannot speak or cast spells with verbal components, and has its speed reduced to 0 as it stands frozen between one breath and the next. At the end of each of its turns, an affected creature repeats the saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success. Each time an affected creature takes damage, it makes that saving throw with advantage. While the sphere persists, sound within it is smothered: thunderous effects are muffled to a whisper, and abilities that require speech fail inside the area.

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell using a 9th-level spell slot, the radius increases to 40 feet, and affected creatures no longer gain advantage on the saving throw they make as a result of taking damage.
