Traits
- Frostwalk. The wendigo ignores difficult terrain created by ice or deep snow, and it leaves no tracks. It can move through a space as narrow as 1 foot wide without squeezing.
- Famine Aura. Any creature that finishes a short or long rest within 30 feet of the wendigo gains no benefit from that rest and must eat twice the normal amount of food that day. The hunger is not its own, but it cannot tell the difference.
- Keen Smell. The wendigo has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell. It can smell fear, blood, and cooking fires from up to a mile away in still air.
- Gaunt Resilience. The wendigo has advantage on saving throws against being charmed or put to sleep, and magic cannot make it feel sated.
Actions
- Multiattack. The wendigo makes one Bite attack and two Claw attacks. If both Claw attacks hit the same creature, the target must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
- Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 2d6 + 5 slashing damage. Talons of blackened frostbite open wounds that steam in the cold air and are slow to close.
- Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2d8 + 5 piercing damage. The wendigo feeds as it bites. It regains hit points equal to half the piercing damage dealt.
- Winter's Call (Recharge 5-6). Hit: 6d6 cold damage. The target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw, taking half as much damage on a successful one. The wendigo looses a shriek of starving wind in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area takes 21 (6d6) cold damage, or half as much on a successful save. A creature that fails also gains one level of exhaustion as the hunger settles into its marrow.
Bonus Actions
- Blizzard Step. The wendigo teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see, provided both its origin and destination are in snow, fog, or heavy precipitation. It leaves a swirl of ice crystals behind.
Reactions
- Ravenous Retort. The wendigo makes one Bite attack against the triggering creature. If the bite hits, the wendigo may immediately move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.
Regional Effects
- Starving Land. Game within 6 miles of the wendigo's hunting ground grows thin and skittish. Foraging and hunting checks made in the region are at disadvantage, and provisions gathered there spoil within a day.
- The Long Cold. Snow falls within 6 miles of the wendigo regardless of season, and temperatures drop to bitter cold. Creatures that end a long rest outdoors in the region must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or gain one level of exhaustion.
