Traits
- Keen Senses. The creature has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight, hearing, or smell.
- Calcifying Gaze. If a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the basilisk and the two can see each other, the basilisk can force the creature to make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw if the basilisk isn't incapacitated. On a failure, the creature is restrained as its flesh hardens toward obsidian; it repeats the save at the end of its next turn, becoming petrified on a second failure and freed on a success. A creature that averts its eyes has disadvantage on the save it forces, but the basilisk's molten glare sheds dim light out to 20 feet, making concealment difficult.
- Heated Body. A creature that touches the basilisk or hits it with a melee attack while within 5 feet takes 4 (1d8) fire damage as cinders flare across its scaled hide.
Actions
- Molten Bite. On a hit, the molten cinders that crust the basilisk's fangs sear the wound. If this attack reduces a creature to 0 hit points, the body begins to petrify into obsidian over 1 minute.
Bonus Actions
- Cinder Lunge. The basilisk moves up to half its speed toward a creature it can see and leaves a 5-foot trail of smoldering cinders in each space it exits. The trail is difficult terrain until the end of the basilisk's next turn.
Reactions
- Obsidian Recoil. The basilisk sheds a spray of razor-edged obsidian shards. The triggering attacker takes 5 (2d4) piercing damage and must succeed on a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw or have its speed halved until the end of its next turn.
