Description

The last commander of Harrowgate, a border keep nobody expected to matter. She hires the party on the first day of the siege because she has more walls than soldiers, and by the end of the first week she is handing them the keys to the armoury. She is fair, she is right more often than not, and she is lying to everyone.

Appearance

Late fifties, grey hair cropped to the scalp, a burn scar down the left side of her jaw. Wears a patched brigandine over a cleric's cast-off cassock because it is warm.

Motives

Hold Harrowgate for forty days so the relief army can cross at Carrow Ford. She gave that promise to a king she has never met and intends to keep it, whatever it costs the villages below the wall.

Personality

Dry, exhausted and precise. Counts everything: arrows, sacks of grain, men who can still stand a watch. Never raises her voice; lowers it instead, and the room goes quiet.

Voice

Short sentences. Answers questions with numbers. Calls everyone by their post, never their name: 'North Tower', 'Sapper', 'Cook'.
