Description
The abbess who runs the Lantern Ward, a plague hospice in a tithe barn outside Kessrow's sealed walls. Her cure is the only thing in the valley that stops the Tolling Sickness, and she will not say what it is made from.
Appearance
Sixty, lean, grey hair cropped short against lice. A soot-blackened lantern on a chain at her hip and a physician's beak mask pushed up on her forehead.
Motives
Keep the Lantern Ward open until the plague burns out, and get as many of the living through the Sealed Gate as the wardens will take.
Personality
Brisk, practical and tired past the point of complaining. Keeps a ledger of every patient by name and reads it aloud at dusk. Softens only with children and the dying.
