Marn Blackkettle
Alignment: Neutral Good
Class: Tavern keeper (retired mercenary)
Race: Half-orc
Role: quest giver
Description
Marn Blackkettle is the half-orc tavern keeper of the Kettle & Crown, the busiest inn where the old trade road fords the Coldwater. A retired mercenary who traded his blade for a ladle, Marn knows every regular's name and drink, breaks up fights before the town guard has to, and lets weary travelers sleep by the hearth when their coin runs short. He is the first friendly face most adventurers meet in Coldwater Crossing, a warm and watchful innkeeper who hears every rumor that drifts through town
Appearance
Broad-shouldered half-orc with greying tusks and burn-scarred forearms, an apron tied over old mercenary leathers he never quite retired.
Motives
Keep Coldwater Crossing peaceful and its travelers fed and safe. Privately, atone for a job he brokered years ago that got a good person killed.
Personality
Warm, patient, and quietly watchful. Remembers every regular's name and drink, defuses brawls with a joke before the guard gets involved, and cannot abide a debt of honor left unpaid.
Voice
Low and unhurried, with a rumbling laugh. Calls nearly everyone 'friend' and means it, until you give him a reason not to.
