Description
Cassander Vermillion runs the Auction of Small Regrets, a velvet-roped tent that appears wherever people have things they wish they could forget. He buys memories, names and minor curses, then sells them again to those who think they know what they are bidding on. He is unfailingly polite, scrupulously honest about the letter of every contract, and utterly without mercy in its spirit. He will offer any adventurer exactly what they most want to be rid of, at a price that seems generous right up u
Appearance
A lean tiefling in an immaculate plum frock-coat, skin the colour of old wine, short brass horns filed smooth and polished. Slit-pupiled amber eyes; a gavel of blackened bone he taps against his palm when thinking; never a hair out of place.
Motives
Acquire rare regrets, names and memories at the lowest price the market will bear, and quietly collect on the soul-debts that back every lot he sells.
Notes
Never breaks a deal's letter, always its spirit — ideal for a slow-burn devil's-bargain arc. The memory he hunts can be seeded into any PC backstory. Run him as a CR 6 fiend-touched broker with an imp familiar bidding from the crowd; he flees rather than fights.
Personality
Silk-smooth and unhurried; treats damnation as good business and never raises his voice. Compulsively straightens crooked things — a picture frame, a guard's collar, the moral of a story. Never lies, because his contracts must be honest, but he weaponizes precise truth.
Voice
Warm, precise, faintly amused — like a maître d' who already knows your order. Speaks in lot numbers and terms of sale. Favours 'a modest price, all things considered' and 'shall we call it done?'
