Pilgrim's Bridge

Level 1 Transmutation

by MilestoneMoss

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: 60 feet

Components: V, S, M (a chip of stone taken from a road, a bridge, or a doorstep)

Duration: 10 minutes

Description

You name a gap you can see within range and bid the world close it. A narrow span of packed stone, braided root, and hoarfrost knits itself across the opening, anchoring to solid surfaces at either end. Pilgrims, scouts, and treasure hunters use it to cross a chasm, ravine, or fast river that would otherwise cost the party an hour of rope work.

The bridge is up to 20 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 1 inch thick. It must begin and end on solid ground, floor, or ledge. If either anchor point is missing or unstable, or if the gap is wider than the bridge is long, the spell fails and the slot is not expended.

The span has no railing. It is difficult terrain for every creature except you, and a creature that is knocked prone on the bridge, or that moves more than half its speed along it, must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check or fall.

The bridge bears up to 1,000 pounds at once. Load it with more and it crumbles instantly, ending the spell. When the spell ends, the span sifts away into grit and any creature still standing on it falls.

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the bridge is 20 feet longer and bears an additional 500 pounds for each slot level above 1st.
