Assay the Weave
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: Self (1-mile radius)
Components: V, S, M (a jeweler's loupe set with a sliver of lodestone worth 500 gp)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour (concentration)
Description
Ten minutes of patient looking, and the architecture of magic over a whole district resolves like a city seen at night from a hilltop.
For the duration you perceive every deliberate magical construction within 1 mile of you: wards and glyphs, alarms, guarded thresholds, teleportation circles, standing illusions, magical traps, and any spell of 1st level or higher currently in effect. For each one you learn its position, its school of magic, and roughly how much longer it will hold, whether that is minutes, days, or until dispelled. You do not learn what any of them will do to you.
You perceive these things through stone, earth, and water. A sheet of lead, a foot of solid iron, or an antimagic field blots out everything behind it, and you learn only that a blind spot is there, which is frequently the most useful thing this spell will tell you all night.
While concentrating, you can take an action to study one construction you perceive and make an Intelligence (Arcana) check against its creator's spell save DC. On a success you read the signature of the hand that made it: whether that same caster made any of the other constructions in range, and whether they are themselves within the mile.
Things that are merely magical do not register. A flaming sword, a bound elemental, a wizard's familiar, a cursed crown; none of them appear. This spell reads what has been built into a place, not what has been born or forged.
At Higher Levels
When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the radius doubles for each slot level above 6th.
