Marrowknit Mending

Level 3 Necromancy

by Sister Ashveil

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: Touch

Components: V, S, M (a splinter of bone and a drop of the caster's own blood)

Duration: Instantaneous

Description

Necromantic vitality flows from your hand into a creature you touch, knitting torn sinew and fusing cracked bone with threads of gray life-force. The target regains hit points equal to 4d8 + your spellcasting ability modifier. This spell can also mend a severed or destroyed limb if the missing part is held against the wound as you cast; the reattached limb is fully functional but permanently marked with pale, mottled scarring.

Because the healing is drawn from the boundary between life and death, it grips the undead just as readily. When you cast Marrowknit Mending on an undead creature, it instead takes necrotic damage equal to 4d8 + your spellcasting ability modifier as its animating energies are forced to reknit against their nature, and it must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be unable to regain hit points by any means until the end of your next turn.

At Higher Levels

When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the healing (or the necrotic damage dealt to undead) increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 3rd.
